Den Hoorn lies on a corner of the old Harnaschpolder, the marshy land between Delft, Schipluiden and Wateringen that was not systematically drained until the eighteenth century. The village itself lived from greenhouse cultivation, livestock farming and arable farming — and the households that came with it wore clothing that had to stand up to the work. Today Den Hoorn is a modern extension of Delft, with the Harnaschpolder as a business park, Look-West as new housing and the old core around the Catholic Antonius Abt church. The families are younger, busier, and no less critical of how a blouse turns out.
